Akashiba Gorge Canoe Tour (June – November) Located within Bandai-Asahi National Park, Akashiba Gorge is known as one of the most scenic spots in the region. The area is covered with broadleaf trees such as Japanese maple, maple, and beech. In autumn, the gorge turns brilliant red and becomes a famous foliage destination. The name “Akashiba Gorge” is said to come from its resemblance to the “Red Cliffs of Japan.” Although the Arakawa River appears fast-flowing when viewed from Route 113, this tour takes place in a relatively calm section surrounded by granite cliffs. Unlike lake canoeing, this river field has a gentle current that adds excitement to the experience. After a warm-up session, we paddle upstream in the first half of the tour. Following a short break, the second half is a scenic downstream paddle through the gorge. Viewing Akashiba Gorge from the water with your guide is a truly special experience. ▪️Level Intermediate / Physical Level 2 / For participants with prior canoe experience ▪️Participation Requirements Participants must have paddled a canoe at least once before. Suitable for those with average physical fitness. River conditions may become faster after rainfall. If you have concerns about your fitness level, please consult us in advance. “Guide-sharing canoe” option (riding in the same canoe as a guide) may be available upon request. ▪️Pets Pets are generally not allowed. If you have sufficient experience and wish to bring a pet, please contact us in advance. ▪️Tour Operation Policy The tour operates in rainy weather. The tour may be canceled at the guide’s discretion if river conditions are unsafe (e.g., very strong current). In case of cancellation by the organizer, a full refund will be issued. ▪️Bring Your Own Canoe Discount If you wish to participate using your own canoe, please select the “Bring Your Own Canoe Discount” option. After your reservation is confirmed, JPY 2,000 per person will be refunded. Please note that the system requires booking at the regular price first. ▪️Insurance Coverage Participants are covered by accident insurance during the tour.
